Our top 5 clips from the cult classic sketch comedy show

By Jeremy Azevedo
In just 3 short seasons, MTV’s The State established itself as one of the most influential sketch comedy series of all time, and kick-started the careers of some of the most successful comedy actors, writers and directors of our generation.

From Thomas Lennon and David Wain to Michael Showalter and Kerri Kenny-Silver, the original cast of The State reads like closing credits of nearly every good comedy in the last few years (that wasn’t produced by Apatow). Despite all this, fans have waited over a decade for The State to be available on DVD, even paying obscene amounts of money on eBay for the one shitty VHS compilation that MTV releases years ago. The reasoning behind the excruciatingly long wait has to do with music rights or some such bullcrap, but the fact remains that the the wait is now officially over. So you can stop sending those 400 page manifestos to MTV now.

The irreverent humor exhibited by The State was hugely influential on comedians and humorists in the 90s and beyond, as it stood as an (actually funny) alternative to the more structured comedic formula established by dead horse-beating shows like SNL. Probably no one was sitting around wondering what you would do with $240 worth of pudding, but The State was more than happy to tell you what they would do with it… Or what goes on in the sub-molecular world of teenage hormones… Or how to catch a Muppet in the wild, or what to do when your mailman stops delivering mail, and starts delivering delicious tacos. Fans of Reno 911, Stella, I Love You Man, Hot Wet American Summer, Drop Dead Gorgeous and all the dozens of projects that have been produced by this comedy collective over the years should take this opportunity to revisit the genesis of The State’s particular brand of offbeat humor.

In order to show rather than tell that these sketches hold up just as well today as they did ten years ago (because these skits all sound batshit crazy on paper), we’ve compiled a collection of five of our favorite clips from the show. Check ‘em out and be sure to pre-order your copy of The State on DVD, available July 14!

Comedian Adam Richmond flirts and jokes with all the celebs!

By Jeremy Azevedo
On May 31st CraveOnLine took their favorite Comedian, Adam Richmond, to be their Man On the Street at the MTV Movie Awards. We brought this guy with us cause he’s funny, brash & shameless

Not to mention, Adam is able to whip any crowd into an orgasmic frenzy! And more importantly, he was able to ask the tough questions: Questions like - Who are you? And…  Really? You were nominated for an award?!

When all the crack reporters are only interested in who the celebs are wearing…all CraveOnline and Adam want to know is which hotty on the carpet is willing to put out after the show - or at least throw us a kiss (Thanks Kiki!).  No celebrity too big, no interview too tough, and no star of Twilight too important to not make fun of.  Enjoy the MTV awards the way the should be viewed…  With laughter, puzzled bewilderment, and with a burning desire to question how Myley Cyrus can actually be a Superstar!

Enjoy it. We certainly did.

Check out Part 1 HERE!

Or… Check out these videos of Adam Richmond doing stand-up live at the Hollywood Improv and battling NINJAS!

Comedian Adam Richmond talks to (more like shouts at…) all the celebs!

By Jeremy Azevedo
This last Sunday, CraveOnline went down to Universal Studios with our good friend Adam Richmond to talk to (i.e. make fun of/sexually harrass) all the celebrities on the red carpet of the MTV Movie Awards!

We managed to wrangle everyone from Stevo-O and Jon Voight to Jason Vorhees, Sumner Redstone, Clifton “Romulan #2″ Collins Jr, Academy Award-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson, Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, the entire cast of Twilight, a whole bunch of reality show people I’ve never heard of, Tyrese, and a whole bleacher-full of 17 year-old girls with boob-jobs (what?).

Check out Adam Richmond goofing with Young Hollywood’s finest future rehab candidates, only on CraveOnline!

Also check out Adam Richmond’s stand-up, live at at the Hollywood Improv!

Katy Perry’s Epic Fail 0

Posted on October 17, 2008 by jeremyazevedo

Katy Perry, best known for singing a catchy song about hot girl-on-girl action (which was a hell of a lot more shocking in 1995 when actual lesbian Jill Sobule sang it), attempted a stunt at the Latin VMAs or some such bullshit that resulted in unexpected fail and LULZ:

Of course, I can’t be too mad at a chick who encourages girls to experiment with bisexuality, is totally fuckable, and whose song is already a staple at strip clubs across the nation… But I would be remiss in my duty if I failed to point out this hilariously epic fuckup to the many good people out there who actually do experience palpable hatred for the young lady, as well as those who just enjoy a good ‘ol fashioned slip n’ fall. Which includes pretty much everybody, amirite?

WTF? No, no seriously, WTF?!

By Moses Amadeus
Goddamnit, I can’t believe that half of these mongoloids actually pay someone to make them look like this. I understand that it must be difficult to dress for an award show honoring music videos on a network that doesn’t show music videos…

…Not everyone can pull off the “ironically soulless commercialism” look with a matching fake smile and vapid political statement. Plus, there’s a certain morbidity to celebrating the death of something, violating it’s corpse and then pissing on the memory of it amirite?

Well, attempts were made, most of which ended up in abject failure. To help lighten things up, I’ve gone to the trouble of helping some of these losers make better decisions at their next award show/telethon/coke party or whatever by suggesting a place in which their various terrible outfits might have been more appropriate. Enjoy!

Ludacris is looking kinda like a valet in that get-up. Did Luda “MC Hammer” all his money away already or what?

Pink looks like the top of a goddamn circus tent, no joke.

I’m pretty sure I saw Lindsay Lohan wearing that outfit whilst working the bar at the Hard Rock in Vegas. Read the rest of this entry →
