We talk to Oscar Lopez and Mark Grigsby at Machinima’s award show.
Last week, we attended Machinima’s “Inside Gaming Awards” show in Santa Monica. Clearly, the fan favorite developer at the event was Infinity Ward, who took home six trophies for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. We talked to Infinity Ward’s Oscar Lopez and Mark Grigsby about their win, what they thought of the competition, and their favorite killstreaks (both real and fictional).

A funny new sitcom about game-dorks, dorking out about games!
Welcome to Critical Flaw, the hilarious new skit-com about two roommates named Khail and Kovic!
Yep… Those are really their names. No, I am not shitting you.
Follow them as they try to understand the world around them and all the video games contained therein. How will they do this? With the help of numerous, conversation-derailing flashback sequences, of course!

Your new all-inclusive gaming destination.
By Jeremy Azevedo
|
With professional gaming leagues like MLG and videogame-dork networking sites like Pwned.com gaining ground at breakneck speeds, the time has come for someone to take a shot at combining the two gamer subsets into one definitive gaming destination. |
Global Gaming is attempting just that, with a website that streamlines the social and competitive aspects of gaming culture in one stop. Here, gamers can find teammates and challengers, read and write reviews and news, share tips, fap to each other’s fan fiction and compete in tournaments. And not just pissant local tournaments either, but rather, large-scale major league tournaments worth actual prizes and good old-fashion American dollars.

This is the single greatest stock image of people pretending to play video games, ever. When you see why, YOU WILL SHIT BRICKS.
This month, Global Gaming has a $2,000 and a $25,000 (!) tournament in progress, one for Call of Duty: World at War and the other for Resistance: Retribution. Yes, that Resistance: Retribution, the PSP game. I’m no expert on professional gaming tournaments but that sounds like an industry first to me. Both competitions run through May and are still open for anyone to join. Win, and you can get your hands on TVs and gaming rigs and cash prizes and even the cute little bomber jackets like the dude wears in the Resistance game, exclusively from Sony.

One of the marquee tournaments on GGL
With over 2.5 million registered game nerds in their network, you’re bound to meet the clan of your dreams, develop rivalries the likes of which will be talked about in Internet cafes and Gamestop shops for years to come, and possibly even cyber-score with a hot chick with really great roundies that lives in Canada but is actually a 40 year old dude with a beard (But what you don’t know certainly can’t hurt you amirite?). Check out GGL.com for yourself and see why so many people are using it to manage their virtual lives every day. Just don’t get all “World of Warcraft” about it, those unemployment checks aren’t going to keep coming forever and the grocery store doesn’t take tournament prizes in exchange for food last time I checked.
